The course is conceived as a series of discussions, each stand alone and centered on a major philosophical theme (i.e.Truth, Beauty, Freedom etc.). It is an introductory course that does not require prior knowledge from the participants, but only curiosity and fascination for classical ideas and theories.

The first session of this series will include a general overview of philosophy as a discipline and the discussion of the first major philosophical theme: human and humanity theories.

The main question will be of what consists the specificity of humanity (if we accept that there is such a thing, namely that we have some features that fundamentally distinguish us from animals) and, to that end, we will relate to the answers given by philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle and Jean Jacques Rousseau.
